The Journal of Social Media in Society (2012 – 2025) was a blind, peer-reviewed, open-access, online journal that accepted scholarly articles and book reviews. The journal was devoted to scholarship and commentary on social media issues and their impact on society. The objective of JSMS was to advance the study of social media with current literature based on theory, research, and practice from all methodological frameworks.
Based at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, USA, The Journal of Social Media in Society was sponsored by various colleges. The JSMS began in 2012, as an idea incubated by the Texas Social Media Research Institute (TSMRI). After five years, the journal became a standalone entity, proud of its TSMRI heritage.
The Journal shuttered in 2026. We have posted archives here to keep the articles online and available.
All of the articles are here, organized by issue.
For those working on T&P packets, the journal maintained a 25% acceptance rate and its impact score was a 1.0.
